Technology website Ars Technica has reported, citing anonymous sources, both Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will come in three storage variants: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. As expected, the Galaxy S6 Edge sporting curved screens on two sides will cost $100 more than the standard variant.
Samsung will sell the two smartphones at the following prices:
Model/price | Samsung Galaxy S6 | Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge |
32GB | $849 | $963 |
64GB | $963 | $1,076 |
128GB | $1,076 | $1,189 |
At these price points, the new Samsung Galaxy S smartphones will cost more than iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
These are prices for the off-contract models, so countries where carrier contracts are a dominant sales model, the prices will be lower but entail a fixed monthly fee for a period of up to two years.
The report also claims that Samsung is going to make the curved screen touting Galaxy S6 Edge a bigger part of its portfolio compared to Galaxy Note Edge. Last year, the South Korean titan had released the Galaxy Note Edge as an experimental model, with only a fraction of units rolled out compared to the Galaxy Note 4.
However, Galaxy S6 Edge will account for 30% of units that Samsung manufactures as part of its S6 range.
The report also claims that Samsung is facing production issue with the dual curved screens of Galaxy S6 Edge. The low yield of the curved screens can create a problem for the company, at least at first. However, such issues are usually resolved with time.
Samsung is already focussing heavily on the S6 Edge and its curved screens as the distinguishing factor in the teasers ahead of its official unveiling on March 1. This is expected to continue with the impending marketing push that company will engage once the two devices are launched.
