The
much-awaited stealth open-world game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom
Pain will see a September 1 release date. This is as per a leaked video
on video game website IGN discovered by a regular of the NeoGAF forums.
Just a day ago, IGN stated it would have "big" news on The Phantom Pain as well as a message from series creator Hideo Kojima.
From the leaked video, the release date of September 1 has been confirmed. In addition to this were some interesting bits of information about the game such as how its single-player campaign will be divided into TV drama events and that protagonist will not be as talkative as he was in previous instalments, as well has how online play would work. But what's most interesting is Kojima claiming that this would be his final game in the series.
"I
always say this will be my last Metal Gear. But the games on the series
I have personally designed and produced - Metal Gear on MSX,Metal Gear
2, Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now Metal Gear Solid 5
are what constitute a single Metal Gear Saga. With Metal Gear Solid 5,
I'm finally closing the loop on this saga. In that sense, this will be
the final Metal Gear Solid. Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues,
this is the last Metal Gear," Kojima said in the video.
As of now, there's no clarity as to which versions of the game will be out on September 1. It would most likely be the console versions (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One), with the PC version to follow at a later date much like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
While the original video has been removed from public viewing on IGN's servers and YouTube, you can check it out on Brazilian site UOL JOGOS until it gets taken down. With less than a day to go for the announcement, the wait won't be too long for all the information to become official.
